AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS

Once you leave the Scalp Micropigmentation clinic, the care of your treatment is very important and the results with vary depending on how well you follow aftercare.
SMP is essentially tiny micro wounds and the skin has had its main protection barrier exposed. It is important that you look after your skin until it is fully healed to avoid any risk of infection or risk or pigment loss..
The attention you give towards aftercare also contributes to the final appearance, number of treatments and longevity of your scalp micropigmentation treatment.

Please follow these specific aftercare instructions. If not properly followed, it may severely affect your SMP treatment results, which will not be covered under your one year guarantee.

  1. Once you leave after your procedure. do not wet or wash your scalp, excessively sweat, or shave your head for a minimum of 48 hours after your treatment. Please avoid any saunas, pools, and excessive workouts for the first week following your appointment.

  2. After the first 48 hours of your SMP treatment you can gently wash your scalp with gentle scentless shampoo and conditioner only, we suggest baby shampoo. You can gently rub your scalp to remove any excess pigment that may have lingered post procedure. When washing your scalp, Please do not vigorously scrub your scalp or wash it under a harsh shower jet. Do not soak your head in the bath.
Always dry your scalp by patting it with a towel. After 4 days, you are able to shave your head with a shaver only if needed! Do not use a razor. We suggest using foil shaver.

  3. By day 5, it is important that you moisturize your scalp at least twice a day to soften the skin and prep your scalp for your next treatment (when you are between treatments) Failure to moisturize between treatment may result in your treatment being postponed, rearrangement of your appointment due to this may result in an extra charge. Once your last treatment is complete you can moisturize daily after the fifth day as needed. For longer hair clients, a good conditioner will suffice.

  4. On day 7, light sweating is fine. Any non vigorous workouts are fine at this point but please continue to avoid excessively sweating until after day 10.

  5. Avoid hats or other head ware which may rub on the treated area or pull off scabs. If essential, loose head wear can be worn but we would recommend to avoid this for The first four days after each treatment.

  6. You must not swim between treatments or for 30 days after your final treatment. Steam rooms and saunas must also not be use for 30 days after any treatment.

  7. You must protect your head from direct sun exposure between treatments. After your final treatment, once your treatment has fully healed after the 10th day, use spf 30+ on the treated area when spending long periods in direct sunlight. This will keep your treatment looking fresher for longer. Do not use sunscreen on your skin until your scalp is fully healed. Direct sun and UV exposure including sun beds may fade your SMP treatment.

  8. You may experience light itchiness and small flaking of the scalp during the healing. It is important not to scratch your scalp or pick scabs. When touching the treated area always ensure that you do so with clean hands so to avoid infection.

Signs of infection

If appropriate aftercare is not followed infection may occur. The signs of infection are, swelling and redness that increases around the wound, severe burning and throbbing sensation around the site, increased tenderness and increasingly painful to touch, and unusual discharge (yellow or green) with an offensive smell.

Speak to your practitioner or seek medical attention immediately if you suffer from any of the above or have any concerns regarding infection in your scalp micro pigmentation tattoo or if there are any signs of an allergic reaction to any of the products used.

Hand Washing

Handwashing is the single most important method of reducing infection. Hands must be washed prior to touching the affected area, therefore reducing the risk of infection. Wash your hands in warm water and liquid soap, always dry your hands thoroughly with a clean towel or paper towel. They should remove most germs and prevent them from transferring to the affected area.
